Skort

Summer is coming and the girls have been growing and Kevin has been complaining about the need to buy them new clothes. They need new stuff for summer like skorts and shorts and capri;s. So I needed to trace a larger size skort pattern. I don't like to use cotton because of the need to iron and most of my stash is cotton. I did have this one piece of cotton blend so I sewed it up into this skort. I lined the skirt in mauve gingham. Now they will need some t-shirts to match.

I decided to try the free bag pattern I got from Hot Patterns. I used fabric I purchased at Ikea. Not sure why I purchased that particular fabric on account of I really don't care for it much. I think my brain just goes stupid when I get into a fabric department. The bag is really quite large. Here I have it hanging as you would wear it over your shoulder.

This is the other view of it with the magnetic snaps done up. I think they made a mistake about the placement of the snaps because you cannot wear over your shoulder with snaps done up!!

Friday morning

All ready for school but could we smile! I think a petticoat would have helped the dress but I was lucky to get the dress done. Jessica loves the dress.

High Tea

Jessica's grade 3 class is having a "High Tea" for their valentines party tomorrow. So Jessica asked if I would make her a dress to wear. Well this is it. I used a pattern out of my Australian Smocking and Embroidery magazine but I did not do the smocking as I didn't have time to do it. But I think I will do another dress with the smocking at a later date. It really is a very cute dress. Instead of smocking I just wrapped a large sash around which looks fine too. I will try and get a picture of her wearing it tomorrow morning.

Doing some sewing

Been doing a little sewing lately. Working on the flannel I bought recently. Making the easy peasy pj pants for Christian. Also have some cut for the girls so will get them done shortly as well. Then need to finish Jessica's dress for her "High Tea" party at school on Friday. So hope to post a picture of that this week.

Still working on Christmas

I don't usually do applique so thought I would try something easy. I just hand drew the shapes. I think maybe I need a little practise in the art department. These are flannel appliques and I am going to make pj bottoms to go with the t-shirts.

Also made some vintage style embroidered pillowcases. If you click on the picture you will get a better view of the embroidery.

Aprons

Thursday's Project - I finished the 3rd nightie first. Then I had to do clean ups in the sewing room. It is hard to think when it is a mess. The kids play there too so there where toys all over plus all me thread and fabric scraps. My fabric needed some organization so I could see what I have and what I am going to do with it. I am trying to not spend any more money and "use what I have". I know that really doesn't work well because you always need something - thread, elastic, zipper, buttons, etc. etc. I really don't have the variety in fabric as I would like but I will have to work with it.
I did get 2 aprons done. Not sure what today's project is yet. Kevin is home today and Ethany is sick so she is home too. That may mean I don't get much done.
